The Springer Spaniel is a medium sized breed of gun dog that was traditionally used for flushing and retrieving game.

The term springer comes from their historic hunting role where the dogs would 'spring' or 'flush' birds into the air. The English Springer Spaniel is a great sniffer dog and it is widely used by the special forces for drug and explosive detection.
Athletic and versatile, it is also excellent at agility, track and obedience trials. The Springer Spaniel tends to have lots of silky hair on the chest, legs and underbelly, all of which need regular attention to stop any build up of mats and tangles.
